The books came from Scholastic Inc., the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books and K.I.D.S. (Kids in Distressed Situations) a national charity of retailers, manufacturers and licensors of children's products.

North Dakota U. S. Senator Byron L. Dorgan helped facilitate the donation, which is part of an effort to distribute 100,000 books to children on reservations in the Dakotas and New Mexico.

Alysha and other TJES students pledged to practice their reading skills in every way. In unison they pledged: "Reading is fun and books are cool. Reading is something I will do every day."
