Position Title:  Skilled Carpenter

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs all or some of the following duties:
  1. Repair doors, windows, and window screen.
  2. Installs carpet, tiles, and ceilings.
  3. Sheetrocks, tape, and builds or repair walls.
  4. Install and repair locks.
  5. Make keys and cores for locks.
  6. Order and buy supplies.
  7. Get bids on projects when required.
  8. Helps plumber, electrician, or other Maintenance Personal when needed.
  9. Snow removal in winter.
  10. Knowledge and operations of all carpentry tools and power tools.
  11. Other duties may be assigned or required.
  12. Must adhere to all safety procedures and policies of the college (state, federal, local)

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

When needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch. Will need to work additional hours, as the need arises. Will need to travel occasionally to attend workshops and/or conferences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position requires standing for extended periods, stooping, climbing, lifting, bending, and reaching in the performance of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ten (10) years of experience carpentry.
  2. Any trade experience, helpful.
  3. Good mechanical abilities.
  4. Planning skills for small jobs and projects.
  5. Computer knowledge and experience.
  6. Dependable and social skills required.
  7. Must be able to read and understand blueprints.

Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference.
