SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice President of Career Development will perform the following duties:

  1. Serves as a career advisor, meeting regularly with students to discuss career goals and plans.  Develops individualized career plans for each student.
  2. In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Career Development oversees the administration of the career interest inventory and interpretation of results.
  3. Provides job placement assistance to students through keeping job boards (including online) current and maintaining contact with students throughout their job search.
  4. Provides transfer advising for students interested in continuing their education, including applications, campus visits, and financial aid.
  5. Plans, markets and implements career fairs that actively involve all of the vocations.
  6. Provides instruction in various settings, including teaching the Career Success course, on the topics of job readiness skill building, including workshops on resumes, cover letters, interviews, work etiquette, and career exploration.
  7. In collaboration with the Associate Vice President of Career Development, administers graduate exit survey and interviews.
  8. Maintains up-to0date Jenzabar training on the appropriate modules to ensure placement data is accurately tracked.
  9. Updates, manages, and promotes use of the Career Resource Center and update the Career Development section of the UTTC Web site.
  10. Maintain collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and off-campus constituents, including attending vocational advisory board meetings.
  11. Shares relevant internship, job opportunities, and career information with academic advisors.
  12. Maintains records for department on purchase requisitions, travel, and vendor information.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch.  Additional hours will be required as needed to complete projects.  Occasional travel may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift, bend, stoop and carry equipment as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or related field.
  2. Should have significant experience in career/vocational advising and/or teaching.
  3. Must possess excellent advising, counseling, and communication skills.
  4. Must be able to work with a diverse student body.

PREFERENCES:

  1. Master’s degree in Counseling or Education preferred.
