SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Associate Vice President of Career Development, performs all of the following duties:

  1. Recruit and select a minimum of thirty (30) and a maximum of fifty (50) qualified students for the program who satisfy the criteria as set out by the North Dakota Jobs for America’s Graduates Early College Success (ND-JAG ECSP) Model.  Target students from current JAG middle school and high school programs in the surrounding areas who are likely to not successfully transition on to college and/or drop out of college prior to the completion of a degree and successful transition into a career.
  2. Participate as part of student services efforts at United Tribes Technical College  and/or other services/programs as appropriate to better coordinate the ECSP with current and future student supports.  Work with United Tribes Technical College  Student Services to assure appropriate connections with related services and programs throughout United Tribes Technical College. 
  3. Utilize existing and future United Tribes Technical College  staff/faculty services that will assist in supporting the successful completion of post-secondary education by ECSP students.  Participate actively on committees as suggested by the on-site United Tribes Technical College  Supervisor.
  4. Develop, refine and deliver two ECSP regularly scheduled classes for credit for a 30 – 50 students.
  5. Assure ECSP students master each of the competencies and expectations of the program including active engagement in the cohort activities throughout their time at United Tribes Technical College.   
  6. Organize the establishment of a highly motivational, student-led cohort organization.  Each student will be a member for purposes of belonging, creating a sense of ownership, building self-esteem, and developing leadership and teamwork skills.  Each student will be provided the opportunity to participate annually in community service, which can be performed individually or within groups. Community service is incorporated into the program to increase student awareness of the needs of the community and develop leadership and teamwork skills.
  7. Work with students and other staff/faculty to provide remediation and/or tutoring required for students to improve their basic education skills and graduate with their class.  Provide any necessary services required to help students overcome barriers to staying in college, graduating, becoming employed and/or pursuing continued postsecondary education.  This effort may include follow-up with teachers in classes that students are not passing or falling behind in.
  8. Provide career guidance and counseling.  Provide counseling and refer to school or community based services as needed to overcome the barriers to graduation, employment, and career entry and advancement.
  9. Develop, in conjunction with United Tribes Technical College  and Job Service North Dakota,  work-based learning and/or job shadowing experiences linked to student career plans to enhance student learning and occupational specific skills in their chosen career field.   Develop, in conjunction with United Tribes Technical College,  ND Department of Commerce, Job Service North Dakota, USDOL Apprenticeship and ND-JAG Administration, internships or apprenticeship opportunities for ECSP students and graduates. 
  10. Contact graduates and non-graduates (at least monthly) and employers (two times) during the 12-month follow-up period; maintain contact with non-seniors during the summer months to increase the probability of their return to college and graduation.  
  11. Complete and regularly maintain all paper and electronic documentation as required by ND-JAG and name of college. 
  12. Work with ND-JAG Administration to complete all monitoring and evaluations, agreements and documentation required by funding sources.
  13. Provide to ND-JAG quarterly reports on student progress including, United Tribes Technical College  attendance, credit completion, GPA, participation in ECSP, recruitment, ECSP class attendance, and career plans.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

General office conditions.  Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch.  Will need to work additional hours as the need arises.  Will need to occasionally travel to attend workshops and/or conferences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift, bend, stoop and carry equipment as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree in Career Education and/or Guidance, social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline is preferred.  Extensive teaching or training may be taken into consideration along with level of education. 
  2.  Must have or be able to obtain a North Dakota Career and Technical Education certification.
  3. Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, facilitation and motivational techniques.
  4. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and maintaining a high degree of attention to detail.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present information effectively to large and small audiences.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain professional ongoing relationships with various stakeholders.
  7. Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG model and goals of the Early College Success Program.
  8. Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as word processing, EXCEL, Microsoft Outlook.
