Position Title: Pre-Engineering Instructor

Status: Exempt, 9-month

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education, the Pre-engineering instructor performs the following duties:
- Instructs students based upon the master course schedule, degree plans, and curricula approved by the Curriculum Committee and the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education for the instruction of pre-engineering coursework in the Environmental Science AAS degree program.
- Performs teaching and other duties for the Pre-Engineering in Environmental degree program as prescribed under the project funded by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
- Serves as the primary advisor and instructor for students enrolled in the Pre-Engineering in Environmental Science AAS degree program. Assists with the orientation, assessment, registration, advising and tutoring of students. Will diligently prepare and maintain student records. Will also write reference letters for students and graduates, as appropriate.
- Assists with research, supplemental learning activities, professional development, program evaluation and other activities required by the NRC program.
- Develops culturally-relevant curricula, lesson plans and other postsecondary coursework materials that achieve student competencies and meet industry workforce standards. Course syllabi will be updated and submitted on a semester basis to the Registrar’s office and to the academic vice president.
- Monitors and reports student attendance and academic progress daily, at mid-terms, and at the end of Finals week through the Jenzabar system.
- Maintains and protects classroom lab areas and resources including equipment and supplies.
- Refers students to appropriate academic support and student/campus life services.
- Makes recommendations to the project director and/or department chair regarding program needs, budgets, informational changes to the college catalog, departmental policies and procedures, and acquisition of instructional materials and supplies.
- Participates in student learning outcome assessments, student advising, program evaluation, classroom observations, institutional committees, all hands conversation meetings, professional development activities, vocational club, and other activities required by the institution.
- Assist with the necessary preparations for comprehensive evaluations and certifications by the N.D. Department of Career and Technical Education, by a national engineering accreditation board, and for re-accreditation by the NCA Higher Learning Commission.
- Will participate in graduation commencement wearing cap and gown.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
General office and classroom conditions. Normal working hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with one hour for lunch break. For flexible scheduling, arrangements will be made with the academic department chair and the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education.
UTTC instructors must be sensitive to the cultures of the students enrolled at the college, must be willing to learn about those cultures, and must be willing to integrate multi-cultural perspectives where appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Individual must have a Masters Degree (PhD preferred) from an accredited institution in an environmental or civil engineering discipline with a minimum of five (5) years experience in a related field and a minimum of one (1) year postsecondary teaching experience. Individual must have knowledge of technology applications. Field-based research experience in related disciplines desired. Knowledge of Native American people, histories and cultures desirable. Must have or be able to obtain a CTE teaching certificate for the state of North Dakota. Ability to work with diverse groups of people is desirable.
