Mission Statement

United Tribes Technical College recognizes its responsibility for making reasonable accommodations to ensure there is no discrimination on the basis of a disability as established under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Reasonable support services, accommodations, and appropriate referrals are coordinated through the office of Disability Support Services.

Vision

The UTTC office of Disability Support Services (DSS) is a resource for all UTTC Students with a documented disability from a licensed professional and is committed towards supporting the student in accessing all UTTC Academic Programs.   All services are provided in a confidential culturally appropriate manner.

Values

The DSS office collaborates in assessing students’ needs and provides appropriate reasonable accommodations in a timely manner.  UTTC Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment and visit with the Disability Support Services Coordinator in promoting self advocacy towards their Academic Success.

Related Services

The DSS office works collaboratively with other UTTC Academic and Support Services programs.   Based on identifiable need(s) the student might be referred to local Agencies.  Disability Support Services will provide a variety of support services to eligible students. The types of support services provided vary according to the needs of the individual. Any individual with physical or mental disabilities, hearing or visual impairments, speech or language impairments, learning disabilities, or other health-related impairments may qualify for services providing that the disability or impairment substantially limits one or more major life activities.
In order to access services the individual must do the following:

  1. Self-disclose his or her disability to the DSS office
  2. Fill out the Student Information Sheet and Releases of Information
  3. Provide documentation regarding his or her disability
  4. Request accommodations through the DSS office
  5. Discuss accommodation recommendations with his/her instructors in a private setting
If an individual with a previously diagnosed disability wishes to receive services, he or she should contact the Disability Coordinator immediately upon acceptance to UTTC. Also, any individual who begins to experience academic difficulties should make an appointment as soon as possible to discuss his/her concerns with the DSS Coordinator. Referrals for assessment can be made to determine if the individual has a disability that was previously not diagnosed. After current documentation has been provided, then classroom accommodations can be made according to the specific needs of the student. Acceptable documentation should include the individual's most recent psychological assessment, or a medical report from a qualified professional that clearly states a diagnosis and make suggestions for accommodations.
